Shimoga known as the gate way of Malenadu, is a 6 hour drive from Bangalore and Mysore and Mangalore. Known for its hospitality, culture, intelligence, broadmindedness, flexibility and wisdom, Shimoga has a special place in the hearts of the poets, authors and artists. Presence of Shimoga is felt in all spheres of life with the contributors and achievers from the district. Shimoga also attracts many tourists across the globe as it has many tourist places. Shimoga has also marked its presence in the social service, service to community and the country. The district has given many scientists, poets, Jnanapitha awardees and freedom fighters to the nation.
About Club
The contribution from the Inner wheel clubs is no less for the district of Shimoga. The city and the district has witnessed many such good programmes from all Inner Wheel Clubs. Inner wheel club Shimoga North was started in the year 2004-05, under the able leadership of the then PDC.Mrs.Bharathi Chandrashekar, who represented the Inner Wheel Club, Shimoga. It was her dream and perseverance which was the root cause for the birth of the Inner Wheel Club Shimoga North. The club was chartered under the Charter President Smt.Shalini Bhaskar Kamath and the Secretary Smt.Chandrika Nagaraj. From then on Shimoga North started initiating small steps to serve the society and community. Still in its teens the club has already given two able leaders to the district as District Chairmen.
From then on till now the Club has seen and been nurtured under the able leaderships of unique Presidents and Secretaries who have led the club to greater heights and fame. The club has contributed towards the welfare of the society and betterment of the needy through its various well thought programmes like health awareness programme on significance of breast feeding, maintenance of personal hygiene especially during the menstrual cycle, has provided Sanitary Vending Machines, construction of Garbage Plants to maintain healthy environment, has provided artificial limbs, health check-up camps for general public and health workers, medical check-ups and blood grouping for Government high school students. It has also undertaken many educational projects like donation of E-learning Kits to schools, conducted Fashion Designing course to the women of Economically weaker sections, provision of water purifiers to schools, provided Hepatitis injection to students of an exclusive girls school, completion two happy schools, Donated Nali Kali book rack, providing uniforms to the needy every year, has donated story books to Government schools, provision of toys and other sports materials to Government schools, arranging inter schools drawing competitions, has provided Water filters to orphanages, adoption of few girl children to encourage and support their education. Along with this the club has organised many mega programmes like donation of blankets to the old age homes, has provided the water stations to yoga centre, has donated steel plates to an orphanage, conducted quiz programmes, constructed a bus shelter, has provided oxygen concentrators, has provided steel sitting chairs to an old age home, distribution of cows to economically weaker people. This is the bird’s eye view of the various projects and programmes organised and conducted by our club. Along with this the club has organised two mega events of District Conferences –Sudhe and Nirantara, has organised District Rally, blended Assembly, and had organised a multi-District Meet.
This year the Club is led by the present president Smt.Sudha Pandu who has her own dreams and vision to serve the society.
