'The Land of Coffee'; well known for it's plantations, natural beauty and tourism is situated in the Northern part of Kodagu district.
Nestled in the Western Ghats of Southern India, coffee, pepper, orange, cardamom, paddy and ginger are the main crops grown here. Agriculture is a popular practice, with Somwarpet producing some of Coorg's finest honey. Homemade wine making is also very popular.
Somwarpet contributes quite a number of personnel to the Indian Armed Forces annually.
Pushpagiri hill range, Mallalli falls, Abbi Mata falls, Harangi reservoir, Honnamana kere are some of the main tourist attractions of this region.
Somwarpet is also a trekkers paradise. Hills like Kumaraparvatha, Kote Betta, Male Madeshwara Betta, Meran Kote, Makkala Gudi Betta and many more offer picturesque views which attract trekkers and tourists throughout the year.
A beautiful antique bungalow called 'Sakamma Bungalow' is situated in the Somwarpet town. This was owned by Sakamma - the first woman to trade coffee in pre-independent India's Bengaluru.
A collective of talented women from this beautiful region - Somwarpet, got together and formed Inner Wheel Club of Somwarpet Gold with the motto of 'friendship and service'.
Our club was started in the year 2019 sponsored by our mother club - IWC Mysore North with the guidance of Mrs Nandini Prabhudev and the leadership of Mrs Kavitha Virupaksha as Charter President and Mrs Saritha Rajeev as Charter Secretary.
For the year 2021- 2022; Asha Yogendra is leading the club as President, Amritha Kiran as Secretary, Prema Hrishikesh as Vice President, Saritha Rajeev as Joint Secretary, Kaveri Suresh as Treasurer, Latha Nagesh as ISO, Thanmayi Praveen as Editor, Chandrika Kumar, Sandhya Krishnappa and Sowmya Sathish as EC members.
