Surathkal is a serene suburb of Mangalore in the Dakshina Kannada District. It was once a separate town but now holds the status of being a beach suburb of Mangalore & is situated on the shore of Arabian Sea. According to a legend the name Surathkal is derived from “Shiratakal" meaning “Headstone” in Tulu. The famous Sadashiv Temple in the shores of Arabian Sea is said to be built around the linga that a demon by name Kharasura carried on his head. Another legend is that in a fit of rage when ravana threw the atma linga, some of the pieces fell at place where the Sadashiv temple is situated at present. The place also boasts of pristine beaches and the lighthouse has been a major landmark. Sasitlu Beach which is just four kms away is a scenic spot and an ideal spot for rafting. The Srinivasa Institute of Science and Research Centre is situated in Mukka, Surathkal.
It is famous for it’s educational institutes and industries. National Institute of Technology (NITK) is an institution of national importance formerly KREC was formed in 1960. Surathkal takes pride in being an Industrial area. Some of the major industries are ONGC-MRPL, BASF, MCF, Baikampady. Industrial area is the hub of many small and medium sized industries which is very close by. The renowned Panambur Port and the Krishnapur mutt are in close proximity. Surathkal is the focal point of connecting Panambur Port and MRPL Refineries. Surathkal is easily accessible by Rail, Air & Road.
IW Club of Surathkal is a vibrant club comprising a group of service oriented, like minded &dedicated bunch of lovely ladies with an ardent desire to serve humanity. Many memorable and worthy projects have been undertaken with great zest in reaching out to the needy & downtrodden. The main focus & emphasis is chiefly given to women empowerment, well being of girl children & women. Our Club members are very much enthusiastic and have attended the South Asian Rally at Cochin, South Zone meet at Mysore for the Golden Jubilee celebrations, Triennial Conferences at Bombay, Varanasi, Hyderabad & Pune & had also attended the virtual IIW Convention at Jaipur.
