On 1st March 2023, in association with Rotary Club of Mysore West, Mammography - Breast Cancer checkup program for the female inmates of the Mysore Central Jail was conducted. Purna Sudha Cancer Foundation joined hands to conducted the checkup. 39 inmates were scrutinized.
Mammogram is an X-ray picture of the breast, to examine the human breast for diagnosis and screening. The goal of mammography is the early detection of breast cancer. Mammography screening is recommended after the age of 40.
Mammography can detect cancer early when it’s most treatable and can be treated less invasively (thereby helping to preserve quality of life). Breast Cancer death rate has dropped by 30% compared to previous 50 years. A study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention shows mammography screening cuts the risk of dying from breast cancer nearly in half.
The checkup program was well supported by the Jail Superintendent Mrs.Divyashree and her team. Dr.Prathima and team from Purna Sudha Cancer Foundation. Dr.Sonia Mandappa co-ordinated the program. The program was attended by President Rtn.Ullas Pandit, Secretary Rtn.Srinath, of Rotary Club of Mysore West, President Mrs.Rushmi Gowda, Vice President Mrs.Samana Srinath, Editor Mrs.Shashikala Suresh attended the program.
