Women & Adolescent girl welfare - 2022

Women and children were the most vulnerable parts of society making them simple targets for cyber-criminals. Women were exposed to these crimes, in particular housewives and those who use social media.

Recognizing the problem, club organized a cyber crime awareness talk to ensure cyber safety. The town police sub inspector was the resource person he explained in detail various methods the cyber-criminals adapt to target their victims and how women can avoid being victim of Cyber-crime.

IWC Puttur had donated one sanitary pad incinerator in July 2022 and the advantage of having such incinerator spread quickly through government Girls high schools and colleges. The club started receiving many requests for incinerators.
Hence one more incinerator was donated to Girls High school Mukrumpady on the day of chairman official visit

India is said to have reported over 24 lakh instances of child sexual abuse during last three years with 80 per cent of the victims being girls below the age of 14 years. Hence the club felt it is important the children should be educated on Good Touch and Bad Touch and the parents & teachers are aware of The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 or called POCSO Act

Renowned Advocate of Puttur, Swathi J Rai was called in as the resource person and awareness programs held to educate children, parents and teachers on the important issues like female child sexual abuse and government support on prevention of such heinous crime via POCSO Act

The Indian Legal system has enacted many laws which are women specific and women related. However, there is lack of awareness amongst the rural women.

IWC recognizing necessity to create awareness organized legal information awareness program at Kumbra Govt School, which was attended by students and their parents. The Puttur Civil court judge happily agreed to be the resource addressed the gathering, clarified many doubts and provided necessary information.

One sanitary pad incinerator with capacity of incinerating 100 sanitary pads per day handed over Govt Girls Junior college Kombettu

The Sanitary Napkin Incinerator disposes napkins in an environment friendly method by burning the pads and converting it into ash.

ADVANTAGES OF SANITARY NAPKIN INCINERATORS:
 
Complete disposal of used napkin by burning, Self-disposal by user by directly putting into the incinerator.Gets rid of the embarrassment of finding out ways to dispose used napkins. Eco-friendly disposal. Less than 1 gm of ash per cycle.

IWC Puttur celebrated vanamahostava by planting few tree saplings. Ambitious project of creating a miyawaki forest was announced and target was fixed to complete in one month.

An efficient technique for creating mini-forests quickly is Miyawaki Forest. It is based on the methods of a Japanese forester and botanist named Akira Miyawaki, an expert in studying natural forests and restoring their native vegetation.

Pollution free world is not a choice but a commitment to life - a commitment to next generation. To create awareness of the harm created by plastic waste a debate competition was conducted for school children where the plastic waste management was the topic.

Anemia - 2022

Women are especially likely to develop iron deficiency anemia due to loss of blood during menstruation. Iron is needed to make the new blood that replaces the blood lost with each menstrual period. With Diagnosis and treatment the effects of anemia can be greatly reduced. Anemia is usually diagnosed by measuring hemoglobin.

Hence IWC Puttur organized a free hemoglobin test camp where women can get their HB levels checked free of cost. Any women found with less HB count was referred to government doctor for consultation and treatment as necessary. Around 75 women availed the facility and got their HB checked.

Orientation program was conducted to help retains. It helps the new members understand how the club functions, gives them the big picture of the district and association. It provides information what their role will be in the club. When new members are properly informed, they are more likely to feel more comfortable with the club, become actively involved in club activities and remain in inner wheel for years

On the eve of children day awareness camp of Type 1 Diabetes in Children was inaugurated. Camps will be held during the month at various schools and colleges of Puttur. A awareness walkathon was also held where inner wheel and Rotary members walked in the town with banners and placards to create awareness on diabetes which is silent killer. A free blood sugar checkup camp was also held at KSRTC bus stand

Bone mineral density checkup will identify the problem in advance and the individual can be treated with suitable calcium supplements. Breast Feeding Awareness Week - 2022

Breastfeeding is both beneficial to both baby and mother. Breastfed babies have lower risk of some short term and long term illness and diseases like Asthama, obesity, type 1 Diabities etc. Breast feeding mothers have reduced risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
To create awareness IWC sponsored a breast feeding awareness talk on Radio. Dr Shruthi Alvoor was the resource person.

Breastfeeding can help protect babies against some short and long term illness and diseases. However, awareness is not present with rural women.
It is estimated that there are around 5000 lactating mothers in the Taluk.

Hence IWC arranged to print 5000 leaflets explaining the advantages of breast feeding and distributed to every mother through health workers (Asha Kaaryakarthas)

We had received a request for a wheel chair to a disabled Girl. In addition to providing mobility, an appropriate wheelchair benefits the physical health and quality of life of the users by helping in reducing common problems such as pressure sores, progression of deformities and improve respiration and digestion.
IWC Puttur donated a wheel chair to girl child to commemorate international disabled person day.
